Experiencing Paris on our Little Red Dot
Ever since the COVID-19 travel restrictions, we have not had the same opportunity to explore new cultures. Today, we are going on an adventure to the world’s most romantic and coveted country in the world. What you are about to discover is not a substitute for the beautiful city of Paris. But this is probably the best we can do in times like this. So let’s attempt to experience Paris on our Little Red Dot. Food is at the core of every Singaporean and that is where our journey will begin. There is no pastry more infamous than the Croissant. Croissant is synonymous with French pastry. So we thought of sharing our recommendation for French Pastries approved by our lovely French friends!
Maison Kayser
Founded by Eric Kayser in 1996, Maison Kayser is an authentic artisanal French Bakery. There are 6 outlets for you to choose from, mainly congregating in the central part of Singapore. We suggest trying the Croissant, Sourdough and the variety of Tartine they offer. Just remember to say, bon appétit. Before digging into your scrumptious meal. Now onto some French-inspired activities. We would love to admire the Mona Lisa up close at the world’s largest art museum amongst other works of art. Prancing through the Louvre from masterpiece to masterpiece. But in reality, we are stranded on our little red dot. However, that will not stop us from experiencing the craft of French artists.
Cuturi Gallery
Head down to Cuturi Gallery to experience a solo exhibition in Singapore, by French artist Quentin Garel (b. 1975). The exhibition titled Anomal. Takes inspiration from the Greek word “anômalos” meaning unequal or irregular, it gives reference to abnormality. This exhibition is indeed filled with unique works that might leave you with a couple of unanswered questions. After exhausting your feet walking through the exhibitions. It is time to give them a rest and immerse in another form of art that requires minimal work. Unlike the prior exhibition which might be suitable for the family. The next work of art can be enjoyed by all. All you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy a French animated movie filled with adventure.
April and The Extraordinary World
Without giving away too many details, you will be taken on a journey through France together with Avril, her talking cat and Julius, a young street rascal. She is in search of her scientist parents, who mysteriously disappeared. She senses that things might not be as it seems and her parents’ disappearance might be a conspiracy. Determined to uncover the truth, she goes on an adventure with her friends. To cap the night off, how about some wine and a cheese board to be enjoyed in the comfort of your home! The beauty of these boards is their social aspect. It is meant to be shared with friends and family while you nibble, sip, talk, eat and drink. Probably a good activity to wind down with family and friends after a long action-packed day.
